Again, I am on call at the VA Medical Center. This time, as my fellow resident was perusing the virtual pages of The Inquirer online, I thought – well, time to check out The Onion (since I obviously cannot get from here). Well, apparently The Onion is blocked as well. What is going on here? There is more truth in one Onion “What Do You Think?” feature than there is in two hours of FoxNews.

Indeed, in a 30-22 victor my alma mater, the University of South Carolina (Go Cocks!) defeated the Florida Gators (ranked #12) on the football field today in a huge upset. I admit that I am not a huge football fan and do not follow the sport carefully, but it’s always exciting when my team wins, and honestly – being out here in Seattle, it is SUPER exciting when I see my team on the news for playing an awesome game. It reminds people in the Pacific Northwest that there are two USC’s.
I remember my college days, when USC always lost to Florida. It was the one team we couldn’t seem to beat. We could get by Georgia from time to time, and Tennessee more rarely, but the victory against Florida always seemed so unattainable (those of you who are USC graduates understand). What a thrill to have finally defeated them – and with a former coach from Florida. Maybe his knowledge of their playing style helped…or maybe the Gamecocks are just playing like a team now that the thugs have been thrown off of the team by Coach Spurrier.
